A Farmscape
Ecology Program Wandering Workshop in
Join us for
a series of winter walks in the woods and learn to identify plants at
the same
time. Our goal is to help you see the forest even when the leaves
aren’t on the
trees. We will travel to three different locations around the County
and, field
guide and magnifying glass in hand, work on recognizing the woody
plants that
are visible. These programs
are free, but registration is required
for two reasons: first, winter weather is unpredictable and so we may
have to
change dates or venues on short notice; second, for those registering
within at
least two weeks of the starting date, we will provide you with a field
guide
and hand lense at cost if you desire.
Planned dates
& venues
(subject to change, so register!) Sunday 25
January 2009, 1 - 3 pm:
Hawthorne Valley Farm. Our inaugural outing. Learn
the basic terms and
traits you’ll need to recognize trees in winter. Begin to meet the cast
of woody
characters that is out there. Sunday, 8
February 2009, 1 - 3 pm: Greenport
Conservation Area. Bring
good boots and warm clothes – we’ll be going off trail to get to know
some of
the southerly trees that creep into our region along the Hudson. We’ll
also
review some of our previous sightings. Sunday, 22
February 2009, 1 - 3 pm: Alan Devoe Bird
Preserve, Old

beautiful
view of the Hudson Valley for our end-of-workshop tea! To Register or
